I actually am looking forward to Joint Base San Antonio.. I think that might actually be a smart move.. Is it 1630 yet?

That said, whose idea was it to create all of these "Joint Base Whatever's?" Pearl Harbor & Hickam, Andrews, Langley.....stupid. At least in my opinion.

Anthony Principi and the 2005 BRAC commission. Some pros, some cons -- it does somewhat make sense at a macro level for bases that are side by side such as JBER. When you get into the micro level and start trying to merge disparate financial, communications, HR, etc systems it gets pretty daunting.

Thanks

Pearl & Hickam are only separated by a fence of brush and two pole gates, but that was about the only commonality they had. Unless you count the WWII attack, but it went beyond those two bases. Yes, I know it makes sense in some cases, but a broad brush? I'm not so sure...guess that's part of why I'm not on the BRAC commission, huh? (tongue-in-cheek, of course)

Most of them are side-by-side bases, which would seem to make sense. The rest I really look at and shake my head in wonder. My favorite is Guam -- Andersen AB & Naval Base Marianas are becoming a joint base, and they're on OPPOSITE sides of the island...

Thanks

I'm pretty sure if somehow I got sent to Langley, I'd shoot myself in the foot.

Langley really isn't that bad. Just like any other assignment, it is what you make of it.

Sure even with paradise outside our door, if the office/job sucks it does not matter......

Been here since Jan 06 after being at Ramstein for 8 years..... :(

Only 2 years left and then I can punch out :)
